Maine Preservation to Receive More than $3M in Congressionally Directed Spending
Maine Preservation is proud to be the recipient of $3,031,769 in federal funds to stabilize and rehabilitate two buildings included on our 2021 Most Endangered Historic Places list—First Congregational Church of East Machias and Wayne Masonic Hall.
While supporting these projects with the necessary consultation, project planning assistance, and funding from Congress, Maine Preservation will take these buildings from imminent danger to viable reuse projects, providing expanded economic, cultural, and community opportunity. Additionally, Maine Preservation will build and foster organizational capacity with each project to ensure the sustainability of these community landmarks and their program offerings.
Maine Preservation is grateful to Congressman Jared Golden, Senator Angus King, and Senator Susan Collins for providing catalytic investment in the adaptive re-use of these two buildings. When stabilized and rehabilitated, these critically imperiled structures are slated to become economic and cultural stimulators in their rural communities, providing much-needed gathering spaces, public programs, and employment opportunities.
Sustain Wayne is proud to announce that the Mason Hall has been chosen as one of the two recipients of the recently announced 2023 Congressionally Directed Spending. We are thrilled and excited to begin the rehabilitation of the the Hall and the opportunity it will bring to Wayne. A special Thank you to Congressman Jared Golden. Senator Angus King and Senator Susan Collins for their continued support and recognition of the importance in saving and adaptively reusing these landmarks in our communities!
