Fall 2020 Hall Update

Dear Community, Friends, and Supporters, 

We want to give you an update on Sustain Wayne’s Masonic Hall project. 

With Covid-19 and the effect it has had, we thought it was best not to solicit donations during the past several months. As we near the end of the year and look ahead to the future of the Masonic Hall, we are asking for your help. We have a block grant (known as the CDBG Grant) for $50,000, which will cover exterior work on the building, specifically the roof. The work is slated to begin in May. 

Our wish is to raise enough money to replace the foundation, requiring raising the building and also replacing the rotting sill along the General Store side of the building while it is jacked up. The building needs this repair to make it usable. The interior of the building is beautiful but still needs architectural repair to keep the historical footprint. As with any old building, windows, paint, plumbing, and electrical are all needed but will be part of another phase as we raise money. Your support with raising the building would ensure that the old Hall will be around for all of us to enjoy for years to come. 

Estimates put the foundation work at around $90,000. We are hoping to raise this money in the next two to three months so we can get the foundation work done, shoring up the building before any roofing begins.  

As we go forward with the project, each phase will be shared with all of you. This building is part of Wayne’s history and it is for the whole community. Please consider donating to this very worthy cause. The building cannot withstand sitting idle for much longer without consideration of an alternative plan. Sustain Wayne would like to continue with this project and see it through, but we desperately need your help. Thank you very much.
